Approaching a Bittersweet Ending

As the end of the third quarter of my last junior high school year approached, I contemplated the experiences that had transpired in recent months. This period was marked by significant transformations, particularly in light of the challenges I encountered during the previous quarter. I was motivated to redeem myself and strive for better academic performance, and the culmination of my efforts would ultimately determine my progress. The outcomes of my endeavors will be revealed towards the end of this piece as I reflect on my personal and academic growth journey.

During the quarter, I leveraged my skills in graphic design, which proved to be a significant highlight of my academic experience. I had the opportunity to create visually appealing thumbnails for my blog, design and decorate various projects, and experiment with new techniques for group presentations. Moreover, despite being a beginner in this aspect, I observed notable progress in my ability to design publicity materials for my organization. This presented both challenges and fulfillment, allowing me to hone my skills and expand my skills in graphic design.

A momentous event that I cherish to this day was my participation in the Divisions School Press Conference, a highly coveted journalism competition that I had yearned to join since my first year in junior high school. While I initially preferred to join The Dove's radio broadcasting team, I was elated to secure a spot in the organization's online publishing team. The experience was fraught with anxiety, as I was unfamiliar with the category, yet I welcomed the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone. It was a moment of triumph as I showcased my writing prowess and collaborated with my team in competing against other talented young writers. Although we placed second due to technicalities, the chance to attend the press conference one last time before concluding junior high school was well worth it.

Moreover, attending the Science and YES-O Camp was another cherished moment during the third quarter. It provided an opportunity for enjoyable experiences as we prepared for the diverse range of activities, including the morning Zumba routine, the pageant, the amazing race, and the crafting and designing of materials for the campers. Despite the numerous unprecedented and stressful events that occurred during the camping, which somewhat detracted from its memorability, attending the camp was still a gratifying experience, particularly after having failed to do so several years prior. Overall, it was an experience that I value and appreciate.

Undoubtedly, the requirement for our class to participate in a hip-hop dance competition as part of the MAPEH program was one of the quarter's most arduous yet fulfilling experiences. Our preparation period was unexpectedly brief as we were informed about the event only a few days before the competition. Despite this significant challenge, my classmates and I devoted ourselves to prepare a captivating dance performance. We spent several hours rehearsing our routine, fine-tuning every move and gesture, and coordinating our movements to produce an impactful and memorable piece.

Our hard work and dedication paid off, as we delivered a mesmerizing and show-stopping performance that earned us the second-place award. I could not help but feel immense pride and satisfaction in our team's accomplishment. In retrospect, the songs used in our dance piece will always hold a special place in my heart as they symbolize our collective triumph over adversity and our shared sense of achievement. Despite our differences and varying dance skill levels, we worked together cohesively as a team to create a stunning performance showcasing our talents and abilities. I learned the importance of communication, coordination, and collaboration when working with others and the significance of supporting and encouraging each other in the face of challenges.

However, not everything was sunshine and rainbows. I struggled in a subject where I had always been weak, and despite my best efforts, my grades were slipping. This led to a feeling of discouragement and apprehension about my academic performance. However, I refused to let these negative emotions consume me and instead decided to take action. I recognized the need for additional support and resources, and thus, I sought extra help through tutoring sessions with my sister. I also dedicated more time and effort to studying and understanding the subject matter thoroughly. I made a minor improvement in my performance during the periodic examination. This success spurred me to strive for excellence and remain committed to my studies for the remainder of the academic year.

As the saying goes, all good things must end, and so it is with this quarter. Though the journey has been filled with valuable experiences and moments of personal growth, an undeniable sense of bittersweetness accompanies its approaching end. Despite these feelings, I am keenly aware that endings are not just about loss and finality but also new beginnings and opportunities for growth. As I say farewell to this quarter and move on to the next chapter of our academic journey, I am excited about the fresh perspectives, challenges, and experiences that await me. Adieu, third quarter, for it, will soon be time for the end of an odyssey.
