The Roles I Live By

I first watched the movie Kung Fu Panda 3 in 2017. My brother and I sat in our living room, watching the film for hours on end. Initially, I didn't fully grasp the movie's lesson, but after stumbling on a random headcanon, I understood one of its underlying messages; we are not just an accumulation of roles, but we are more than just the total of all of it.

The basis of life is to be who we are. This is not a statement of abstract philosophy, but rather a reflection on the fundamental nature of our being as humans. Which now leads to the question: Who am I?

I am a daughter and sibling. I like doing acts of service for my family, especially when they're busy. In our house, I often wash and sweep, but I rarely cook because it is one of the house skills that I'm not quite used to. I also refuse to work in a cluttered environment, making me like to keep all of our things at home organized.

Moreover, I am a student. In school, I like taking on roles and responsibilities that require leadership. As someone with experience as a leader in multiple situations, I have gained skills such as socializing, taking the initiative, and critical thinking.

I am also a dreamer. Not the type of dreamer who fantasizes about living in a dystopian society, but rather a dreamer who aspires o achieve her goals in the future, such as helping people by becoming a pediatrician.

Furthermore, I am somewhat of a fanatic. I'm an avid fan of literary works, most particularly novels. Reading novels is a hobby of mine that started way back in elementary. I often borrowed my sister's physical or digital books to read endlessly until night. I enjoyed reading as a way of temporarily escaping reality to live the character's life as they embark on an incredible adventure or simply as they live their everyday lives.

To conclude, the aforementioned are just general roles I live by daily. There may be roles I am unaware of or have yet to fulfill, but by being the things mentioned above, I can be and will be myself.
