Cultivating Creativity and Imagination

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly affected the mental health and well-being of many children worldwide and their families. Environments where children thrive were disrupted, affecting the children's rights to survive, develop, be protected, and participate safely and fully. It has caused anxiety, depression, social isolation, and other mental health problems in children. This year’s National Children’s Month celebration aims to recognize the significant impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the mental state of children, with the goal to meet and improve certain aspects for the betterment of their health and well-being.

The National Children’s Month is annually celebrated every November, pursuant to R.A. 10661, commemorating the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) on November 20, 2022, seeking to promote the protection of children’s rights and welfare. This year’s celebration aims to acknowledge the magnitude of the mental health concerns among children, meet and improve the mental health needs of Filipino children, as well as to converge efforts and services, and share the good practices to fill the knowledge gaps of the units of the government in addressing the mental health concerns of children.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a devastating effect on the lives of many people. Many children have been affected by the pandemic, and their mental health and well-being is of great concern. They are vulnerable to this crisis because they are not yet equipped with skills or resilience needed to navigate through this dark time. This celebration allows children to exercise their fundamental right to survival, development, and protection. It is a time wherein we must recognize and appreciate our nation’s commitment to protect human rights for all children. Moreover, it provides an opportunity to promote positive mental health and well-being for children during the pandemic. Finally, it serves as a call for public awareness and support in protecting and promoting the rights of children in times of crisis.
