In a Decade: Dreams and Dilemmas

Individuals can generally be categorized into two groups when asked how they envision themselves a decade from now: those with a clear direction in their writing, having likely planned their future endeavors in detail, and those still grappling with the decision-making process. I find myself belonging to the latter group. While I often write similar pieces for completion, the present circumstance differs from my usual approach.

During my formative years, I encountered the need to commit to a single career path for an extended duration. I frequently oscillated between various passions, considering professions such as baker, journalist, dentist, pediatrician, and chemist. My experiences and interests inspired these choices at different stages of life. Nonetheless, a common objective underlying these envisioned professions was to attain financial stability, enabling me to provide for my family's needs alongside my sister.

My inclination towards baking stemmed from indulging in baked confections during elementary school. Occasionally, my father would surprise me with a treat from the local store or Red Ribbon, evoking an appreciation for the delectable glaze of a cinnamon roll or the subtle nutty flavor of a caramel bar. As time progressed, I became involved in my elementary school's publication, where I spent three years as a member of the radio broadcasting team, nurturing aspirations of pursuing a career in journalism. The significance of this passion intensified during my early years as I became cognizant of issues surrounding freedom of speech and instances of red-tagging. While I am uncertain of the exact catalyst for my interest in dentistry, I recall it being rooted in past experiences. Concurrently, the decision to pursue pediatrics was influenced by a book I read in 2020, which held my attention until the idea of pursuing chemistry emerged.

My fascination with chemistry commenced in ninth grade, following a course in Consumer Chemistry. I eagerly sought information about our lessons, scouring through my mother's extensive book collection or my sister's high school textbooks. To this day, I cannot claim mastery of the subject, but I eagerly anticipate studying it at a more advanced level once I enter college. Subsequently, I aim to embark on a career aligned with chemistry, though the specific path remains to be determined. Irrespective of the chosen trajectory, my primary goal is to achieve financial stability through employment, enabling me to meet my family's needs.

Furthermore, should the opportunity arise for further academic pursuits, I remain open to the prospect of studying my earlier inclination, pediatrics. By attaining expertise in both fields, I aspire to develop innovative treatments tailored specifically for children and young adults. Through this endeavor, I aim to impact their lives by providing compassionate care and nurturing their health from an early age.

In conclusion, as I look ahead to the next decade, I anticipate a multifaceted journey encompassing different aspects of my life. With clarity in my goals, I am committed to pursuing them with relentless determination and unwavering perseverance. I understand that transforming my envisioned future into a tangible reality will require steadfast effort and a steadfast mindset. By combining my passions, interests, and acquired knowledge, I aspire to construct a future that brings personal fulfillment and encompasses professional accomplishments. Ultimately, my driving force lies in creating a prosperous and fulfilling life for myself and my family, ensuring their well-being, and nurturing their dreams alongside my own.
